An oil painting on canvas still life by listed artist Fernando Ruiz de Ascarza (20th-century). The work depicts a vase of yellow roses next to a book on a blue ground. The piece is signed and dedicated to the lower right corner. It is presented in a gold tone wood frame with wire to verso for hanging purposes.
A supposed friend of well-known Cubist Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881 – 1973), Ascarza is known for his figurative paintings. The artist instructed a number of regional artists during his career.

- to fair; some accretions throughout painting; accretions and discoloration throughout frame; scratches and chipping throughout frame particularly to lower corners; cracks throughout molding of frame.
