Antique Captain's English Davenport Desk
Item Details
An antique, early to mid 19th century captain’s English Davenport desk. Desk features a beautiful walnut veneer over pine and mahogany secondary woods, leather inlay to desk top with gilt edging, a slant front lid, opening for books in top, opening case at top with small and large compartments for desk accessories, round footed design, four drawers on the right side of desk with wood knobs, and hand cut dovetail joinery. There is fabulous marquetry inlay to the edges of the desk in a scrolled urn shape, that also appears to the top compartment for accessories. On the left side of desk are faux drawers with wooden knobs, to match the design on the right side of the desk.
Condition
Some wear consistent with age and use. Some nicks and scratches are evident to the wood construction of the piece. Some wear to the leather and gilt edging.
