Hand-Knotted Sino-Persian Silk and Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Sino-Persian silk and wool area rug. The rug has been worked in a muted palette of shades of celadon, taupe, wine, olive, spruce, gray, coral, salmon, persimmon, black, ivory, and fawn. A large lobed pendant medallion is surrounded by arabesques, acanthus leaves, and herati in the celadon field. The inner minor borders feature floral and leaf motifs while the outer minor border is infilled with flowers, vines, and stylized samovar motifs. The primary border has an ivory ground populated with flowers and acanthus leaf swags. The rug has knotted fringe at each end and there is a label affixed to the underside identifying it as having been handmade in China using silk and wool.
