A hand-knotted Yezd wool area rug. This striking rug features a black, beige, blue, and maroon palette within a large floral lozenge, in a palette of burnt orange, scarlet, pale blue and grey, shades of green and indigo. The allover pattern is well-rendered floral bouquets, flower heads and foliate elements contrasting on the deep onyx ground. It has round spandrel elements, each populated with a small floral bouquet on a scarlet ground with decorative, petal-like scalloped edges. It has a compound border with smaller floral elements, and a wide onyx primary border of carnations, lotus and other florals in ivory, indigo and scarlet. The rug has overcast edges and long, dense wool warp fringe to the ends. It is unlabeled.
