A Savonnerie style needlepoint area rug. The rug has been stitched by hand using wool yarn in a palette of soft shades which includes peach, leaf, rose, coral, buff, wine, sand, blue, mauve, and ivory. A large oval floral medallion is framed with flowers which are repeated in the primary border. Large cartouches infilled with rose sprays are placed at the midpoints of the ends and sides and break through the compound borders into the minor outer border with a pattern of scrolled acanthus leaves.
