Antique J.W. Forbes Sterling Silver Pitcher
Item Details
An antique sterling silver pitcher by John Wolfe Forbes of New York, NY (active 1802-1831). This small pitcher features an ornate scrolled handle with anthemion borders to rim and base, having a hand-chased band to the perimeter. The figural band illustrates a continuous landscape depicting a shepherd tending sheep, a farmer plowing a field, and a sun rising over the horizon with sailing ships, and a castle set high upon a hill. The base is marked ‘I.W. Forbes’ within a rectangular cartouche. The pitcher tests as sterling silver, and the approximate weight is 12.115 ozt.
