Hand-Colored Engravings after Fanny Corbaux "Marion" and "Leila"

A pair of antique hand-colored stipple engravings on paper titled Marion and Leila after paintings by British artist Fanny Corbaux (1812 – 1883). These prints depict two women from the poems of Lord Byron, both leaning dreamily on windowsills, and were originally printed for the 1836 publication The Gallery of Byron Beauties; Portraits of the Principle Female Characters in Lord Byron’s Poems. Each is surrounded by a circular, hand-painted border and presented behind glass in a gold tone and black painted wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
- some discoloration to prints; moderate wear to frames, minor loss of paint ed finish.
