A pair of south Indian carved wooden statues. Each piece depicts a warrior on horseback wearing a studded helmet and armor. Each horse is made up of multiple human figures posed together to create the shape of a stylized horse. The items feature an applied patinated finish of variegated brown hues accented with painted bronze tone embellishments. No signatures or maker’s marks were found.

Condition

- to fair; small cracks present to wood, with larger crack, separation and damage to one horse’s tail; scattered surface wear, markings and accretion.
