Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Kurdish Bijar Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Persian Kurdish Bijar wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of terracotta, carnelian, indigo, sapphire, wheat, ivory, cornsilk, and black. The terracotta colored field begins with a serrated hexagonal lozenge grounded in indigo featuring boteh motifs, and a large pendant medallion. The pendant medallion and the rest of the field are both infilled with an all-over herati pattern. Framing the field is a main border of a wide rail meander with tree of life, boteh motifs, and rectilinear forms grounded in sapphire. There is also a floral meander guard border, and a stylized running water guard border, with a checked minor border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a short warp fringe to the ends, as well as a label to the underside.
