A pair of antique photogravure prints. The black and white prints are titled Leisure Hours and A Rehearsal. The former depicts four young women lounging in classical fountain setting dressed in gossamer fabric gowns. This print is based on a painting by Diana Coomans (Belgian, 1861-1952). It is signed in plate, ‘Diana Coomans, Paris’. It is dated 1900 and published by Fishel, Adler & Schwartz of New York and printed in Austria by Blechinger & Leykauf (Vienna). The latter depicts six men and women in satin and lace dress gathered around a piano in a historic house setting, rehearsing music. It is a print after a painting by Guglielmo Zocchi (Italian, 1874-1974). It was published in 1903 by Louis Wolff & Co. and printed in Vienna. Both are presented under glass with neutral mats in matching wood on gesso frames with gilt finish. They have boards to verso and a wire, ready to hang.
Condition
- both frames are in poor condition – extensive pieces of broken wood trim and gesso
- “Leisure Hours” print needs to be recentered in mat
- damage to mat in one corner of “Leisure Hours”
- water damage to mat of “A Rehearsal”
