A pair of handbuilt porcelain plates by Michigan artist Dorothy Dunitz. The first features a beautifully variegated chocolate to mocha abstract glaze pattern over an ivory, opaque glaze, having a glossy, high-fired sheen. The second features a wide, abstract area of a grey to turquoise crystalline glaze over an ivory, high-gloss glaze. They are signed to the underside.
Dorothy Dunitz (American, 1919-2016) was a well known Franklin, Michigan ceramicist, known for her abstract plate and plaque forms in porcelain, typically using a variety of textures and muted, earth toned glazes. Several of her pieces are held by the Detroit Institute of Art.
