Hand-Knotted Pakistani Kazak Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Pakistani Kazak wool area rug. This unique rug is rendered in a variegated palette of cranberry, indigo, ivory, slate green, sky blue, and wheat. The cranberry hued field begins with a rhomboid shaped medallion framed in square lozenge with a laleh abbasi, and animal head patterned borders, while infilled with more animal head motifs and quatrefoil arrows. The field also features a symmetrical design with large crescent forms, palmettes, animal head symbols, rosettes, stars, smaller medallions, kaikalak motifs, branched vines, and other symbolic motifs. Framing the field is a main border with quatrefoil florettes, and animal head motifs, while guarded with chemche patterned borders, and minor checked borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a charcoal wool warp fringe to the ends, as well as a label to the underside.
