Vintage Finely Hand-Knotted Persian Sarouk Room Size Rug

A vintage finely hand-knotted Persian Sarouk room size rug. This beautiful wool rug is rendered in a palette of scarlet, ivory, azure, sapphire, wheat, apricot, and silver. The scarlet hued open field begins with a large floral themed lobed pendant medallion, enclosed with elaborate layered spandrels, and ornately designed floral bouquets surrounding the medallion. Framing the field is an over populated main border featuring large palmettes, boteh motifs, curled leaves, and an abundance of floral motifs, forming a stylized herati pattern. There are also numerous guard borders in patterns of laleh abbasi, a carnation meander, a chained box meander, and another style of a chain. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a short ivory wool warp fringe to the ends, as well as blue weft threads visible to the underside. Unlabeled.
