An original watercolor painting on paper titled The Gardens at Penshurst Place, Kent by well-listed British artist Lilian Stannard (1877 – 1944). The painting depicts a formal garden outside of a manor house, resplendent with spring blooms. Penshurst Place, visible to the right side of the composition, was built in the 14th century. It is the ancestral home to the Sidney Family, and was the birthplace of the renowned Elizabethan poet Sir Philip Sydney. The work is signed to the lower left corner. It is presented behind glass in an antique gilt wood frame, and is ready to hang with a wire. A brass plaque with the artist’s name is attached to the base of the frame, and a label with her name and the title are attached to the verso.

- light toning to painting. Accretion and minor wear to frame finish.
