Item Details
A European oil painting on canvas dated to the mid-19th-century. The work depicts a seated half-length portrait of an older woman wearing a black dress, shawl, and a lace cap with red floral accents. It is presented in a wood frame with a wire to verso for hanging purposes.
Condition
- to fair; dent with warping to center of canvas; 1" tear to center of canvas; cracks and areas of craquelure to paint throughout; abrasions and scratches with paint loss to edges of painting; small area of in-painting to upper right background; scratches and chipping throughout frame; some remnants of previous gilt finish to frame at corners; abrasions and wear to frame.
