A copy oil painting on canvas after a painting titled Eos (circa 1841) by celebrated artist Sir Edwin Landseer (British, 1803 – 1873). This painting, after an original work commissioned by Queen Victoria, features a portrait of a slim black and white Greyhound. The dog stands against a deep red drape, with her master’s effects including a tophat, cane and gloves resting on an ottoman nearby. This painting is unsigned. it is presented in a black and gold tone wooden frame with a paper backing and metal hanging wire to the verso. Adhered to the verso is a label with additional information on this work.
Condition
- some discoloration; accretions; surface abrasions and areas of paint loss; some warping to ground; dent to canvas at lower right, tear in canvas towards the left foot of the dog; craquelure; wear to frame.
