Vintage Guna Mola Textiles
Item Details
A matching pair of mola cloth panels. Mola are shirt panels in the traditional dress of the Guna people in Panama and Columbia. These panels are made using hand-stitching, reverse appliqué, and embroidery of brightly colored fabric in striped patterns. These pieces feature non-objective patterns of scrolling, hooked lines in a palette of yellow and pale blue with a scarlet ground. They are unsigned and presented between panes of glass in steel blue metal frames with saw-tooth brackets to the versos for hanging.
Condition
- mild to moderate discoloration to each piece; some fraying and stitches coming loose throughout works; very light clouding to inside of glass.
