Item Details

A framed, vintage African Kuba cloth panels from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The pattern of diamonds and zig zag lines are hand woven by Bakuba men using vegetable dyed raffia palm leaves on hand looms. Bakuba women embroider the panels, each panel a unique work of art. Traditionally, the versatile cloth was used for clothing, mats and even currency. This panel appears in tans and browns of both flat weaving and cut fibers that form a pile surface. It is presented float mounted under glass and housed in a wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.

- some discoloration to piece; accretion to glass; light wear to frame finish; minor scratches to frame; fraying toward edges of cloth.
