Item Details

A music box. This hardwood constructed antique music box features a black lacquer finish with a simulated walnut inlay band of paper on the lid. The lid also boasts a central simulated mother of pearl and walnut inlay in a field of simulated walnut surrounded by a black and gold tone band. The workings of the music box are cylindrical and housed under glass and has levers that allow the user to either repeat the tune played or stop and go on to the next one. It also has a start and stop lever and a tab at the back to let the listener know what tune is currently playing. The lid has a card affixed to the inside with the tune list which includes, ‘If I but Knew,’ ‘While the Couvet Bells Were Ringing,’ ‘Good Night Beloved, Goodnight,’ ‘The Gondolier Intermezzo,’ ‘Mississippi Mamie Song and ’The Prince of Pilsen Heidelberg.’ The card is embellished with cherubs and musical courtesans and in handwriting reads, ‘No. 3200.’

- wear to the laquer and faux finishes, music box does play and switch between songs and/or repeats
