Hand-Knotted Fritz and La Rue "Kaimuri" Area Rug

A hand-knotted Kaimuri area rug, made in India for Fritz and La Rue. This Persian Heriz-inspired wool rug features an ivory and crimson star medallion over a midnight blue field filled with palmettes, leaves, flowers and rectilinear vinework. Framing the field are compound borders including a turtle-patterned main border featuring meanding palmettes over ivory. The palette is midnight blue, crimson, ivory and azure. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with long ivory cotton warp fringe. Labeling on the reverse includes a merchant’s tag from ‘The Shops at Carolina Furniture of Williamsburg.’
