An oil painting on canvas of a nude female figure by American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997), created in 1982. This work features a nude woman seated on the floor of an interior space with colorful walls. The work is portrayed in a post-impressionistic style with dark outlines, loose brushstrokes, and suppressed detail throughout the modernist composition. It is signed and dated to the lower right and remains unframed.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Edgar Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
