An artist proof intaglio print on paper titled Ladder VII Judgement by artist and educator William Ashby McCloy (American, 1913 – 2001), dated 1980. The work depicts an abstracted figurative scene variety of textures and colors printed into the paper. To the bottom print margin, the work is titled, numbered as artist proof 10, signed, and dated. The print is presented unmounted and without a frame.
William Ashby McCloy spent his early life in China before moving back to the states with his family in 1926. He began his formal art training at the State University of Iowa and graduated with a B.A. in Art. With additional training in painting, printmaking, and sculpture McCloy eventually spent time in the military before pursuing additional education; earning a PhD in Art History in 1958. Both an exhibited artist and avid educator McCloy’s work is housed in permanent collections of The Library of Congress and the Slater Memorial Museum.
