Attributed to Blair Lent Colored Pencil Drawing

A colored pencil drawing on panel of a colorful landscape attributed to Blair Lent (American, 1930 – 2009). Depicted is a child-like rendering of rolling hills with vibrant buildings perched on top. Piece is without artist’s signature but has an estate stamp to the verso. Piece is presented as loose work without mat or frame.

Born in Boston in 1930 Blair Lent would later attend the Boston Museum School in 1953 and used a study grant to study abroad in Italy and Switzerland. He received positive feedback on some of his work written for younger audiences and Lent began to write and illustrate books under the pen name of Ernest Small. Using a variety of mediums, the artist would also illustrate for other authors. Lent won many awards for his illustrative work including the 1973 Caldecott Medal of U.S. picture book illustration. His body of work is kept in both private and public institutions including the Mazza Museum at the University of Findlay and the Kerlan Collection at the University of Minnesota.
