A charcoal drawing on paper of a female figure by Arthur Bowen Davies (American, 1862 – 1928). Depicted is a standing female figure with her arms tucked behind her back rendered in white and black charcoal. Piece is without artist’s signature but includes an estate stamp to the lower left corner. Drawing is presented mounted under glass in a wooden frame with a wire hanger to the verso.
Born in Utica, New York, Arthur Bowen Davies gained a reputation over the years for his ethereal figure paintings that expressed mysticism and lightness. Davies was also the chief organizer for the 1913 Armory Show that revolutionized American art by introducing modernism to the viewing public. Besides paintings, Davies worked on printmaking, having begun in the 1880s and producing over two hundred graphic works between 1916 and his death in 1928.
