An engraving on paper titled Portrait de la Fontaine from the series La Bestiaire de La Fontaine by well-listed artist Salvador Dalí (Spanish, 1904 – 1989). This print features the bust portrait of the French fabulist and poet Jean de la Fontaine rendered with dynamic linework. It is edition 168 out of 250, and is signed in graphite to the lower right. This print is presented matted under plastic and is housed in a wooden frame with embossed black moulding with a beveled edge.

Dalí was born in Figueres, Spain to Salvador Dalí y Cusi, a lawyer and notary, and Felipa Domenech Ferres. His mother encouraged his artistic pursuits a eccentricities. In 1922 Dalí enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain. It was during this time that he went to Paris started interacting with Picasso, Magritte, and Miro leading to his first Surrealist phase. Dalí is best known for his Surrealist painting, drawing, photography, and sculptures. His works are housed in many private collections and museums across the globe.
