A bronze sculpture titled Saxophone Player by Dayton artist Virginia K. Hess. This contemporary work depicts a figural portrait of a saxophone player formerly from the Jimmy Dorsey Band. The piece is signed in mold by the artist to the right-side waist of the sculpture and dated 1993. It is presented on a white stone pedestal.

Virginia Krause Hess is a versatile, distinguished artist from Dayton, Ohio whose works range from oil paintings to wood, ceramic, stone and metalwork sculptures in subjects spanning from from abstract work, portraiture and landscapes, to historical scenes and events. She has fulfilled commissions from public institutions and private collectors both regionally and nationally. In 2006, Ms. Hess unveiled a bronze bust at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Virginia received her formal art education at the School of the Dayton Art Institute and the University of Dayton. She has taught fine art classes at several institutions throughout the Ohio Valley Region.
