A needlepoint embroidery piece. This hand-stitched work features a medieval woman on horseback with a bird perched on one hand. There are dogs at the horse’s feet and a castle in the distance, and they are on a black stitched ground. There is size variation in the stitching for shading detail in the woman’s skin and facial features, as well as stitches used for embellishment in the pattern of her dress. The work is unsigned and presented unframed and stretched over wood stretcher bars.

- severe discoloration to piece; areas of wear and pulled stitches; lint collection to surface; fraying to fabric around nails to verso.
