An acrylic painting on canvas by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer, titled Sally’s Coming Over. This psychedelic painting depicts an undulating, symmetrical mass of green, purple and blue tones, which create the hair for a figure who is presented looking forward, titled upside down. The stretcher has been moulded into a steep curve at the top edge, which pushes away from the wall and towards the viewer. The canvas is wrapped around the curved wooden stretcher with hanging wire to the verso.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
