A hand-knotted Persian Koliai long rug. This wool rug is rendered in ruby, camel, taupe, cream, emerald, cocoa, pink and azure. It begins with a ruby and cocoa herati medallion, the medallion floating over a field filled with a lattice of tiny garnet-colored florets over bands of taupe and cream. Spandrels are elaborately shaped, edged in pink and grounded in azure and garnet, with boteh and flowers. Framing the field are three borders. These include a highly stylized/abstracted herati main border over ruby, a lambolo outer guard border over taupe, and a minor border featuring meandering carnations over emerald. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’ on the reverse.
