A hand-knotted Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug begins with a central medallion with a deep chain of pendants over a raspberry field. The field is filled with arabesqued palmettes, lancet leaves, flowers, and vines, elements that continue in the spandrels. The palette is raspberry, pink, black, cream, slate blue, powder blue and chartreuse. Framing the field are compound borders, two of which feature meandering floral patterns. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe.
