A hand-knotted Persian area rug. This wool rug features a floral design in a palette of ruby, sapphire, midnight blue, pink and sand. It begins with a cross-shaped medallion composed of flowers and palmettes, the medallion resting on a contoured, ruby lozenge with sapphire spandrels. The field is framed by six borders including a herati main border featuring palmettes, lancet leaves, and flowers over midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’ on the reverse.
