A hand-knotted Turkmen wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of deep plum, cranberry, taupe, ivory, and charcoal. The deep plum colored field features an all-over palmette pattern enclosed with a running dog pattern. Framing the small field is a wide paneled border featuring hooked elements, animal head motifs, florettes, and running dog patterns. There is another running dog border, as well as a sawtooth, and a barber pole border framing the field. Finishing this rug are quadruple overcast selvedges and an ivory warp fringe to the ends, along with a label to the underside.
