Bill Schiffer Ink Drawings of Furniture Design

Item Details

Ink on paper

A collection of thirty-five ink drawings on paper by New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). These design drawings and sketches depict different furniture concepts. The lot includes designs for chairs, TV stands, and more in geometric styles, some more sculptural than practical. Each is signed to a lower corner and labeled with the intended purpose of the object. The pages are presented unmatted and unframed.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
