Item Details
A pair of vintage Louis XV style twin size bed frames by the John M. Smyth Co. The flame-grained, birch-veneered frames are embellished with gilt- and yellow-painted accents. The headboards feature double-arched, rocaille-carved crests flanked by shaped stiles while the cartouche-shaped foot boards have scrolled aprons and short, cabriole legs ending in wooden casters. The ends are joined by straight side rails, one of which is marked ‘John M Smyth & Co / Chicago Ill.’ and ‘From / Union Furn Co / Batesville Ind.’ The back of each headboard retains a paper manufacturer’s label reading ‘John M. Smyth Co. / Chicago’.
