Bill Schiffer's Sketchpad with Ink Drawings

Item Details

Paper

A spiral-bound artist’s sketchpad belonging to New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). This pad has pages of ink drawings that sketch, thumbnail, and explore ideas for Op Art style drawings and slogans such as ‘I am, therefore I should be on T.V.’ and ‘God loves me and hates you.’, among other sketches and plans. It may be tied closed with an attached red ribbon.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
