Item Details

Mixed Media

A set of mixed media works on paper by American artist Bill Schiffer (20th-century), dating from 1984 – 1995. Featured items include a cut paper collage, a color print and ten ink and gouache illustrations. Subjects include silhouette figures, modernist landscapes and abstract geometric compositions, many rendered in a palette of black and white. Most of the pieces are signed and dated to the outer margins. All are presented unframed.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
