A c. 1910 lithographic print of an European castle by listed artist James Hopkins (1877-1969). The work depicts a medieval stone castle set high on a wooded hill, with houses both at the foot of the hill and on the slopes approaching the castle. The litho is printed with a gradated blue sky, deep green trees and subtle shades of ivory and terra cotta to the architecture. The print is marked with an estate stamp to the verso. James Hopkins studied under Frank Duveneck in the 1900s, leaving for Paris in 1902. Hopkins taught with Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Fine Arts Academy, then headed the Fine Arts Department at Ohio State. He is known for his figural female nudes as well as well as regional painting. Additional information on the artist is included in the enclosed link.
