Richard Smith Painted Relief Vacuform Work
Item Details
An original painted relief vacuform work titled LOGO K Magenta by listed British artist Richard Smith (20th century). In this Minimalist piece, a vacuform-formed screen-printed sheets is held in relief by gray painted wooden supports. The center brush-shaped image is painted in a gold organically pattern with a multi-colored T-shaped handle, and with a screen-printed geometric gridded overlay in magenta to the background. The image of squared sheeting is obscured by density of scribbling which overspills onto the support. The moulding divides in two, creating a mirror-effect. The vacuform is wrapped over a board backing. Richard Smith studied at the Royal College of Art, London, from 1954 to 1957, and from 1959 to 1961 lived in New York on a Harkness Fellowship. His work is widely exhibited and collected. Additional information about the artist is included in the enclosed link.
