Richard Smith Painted Relief Vacuform Work
Item Details
An original painted relief vacuform work by listed British artist Richard Smith (20th century). In this Minimalist piece, a vacuform-formed screen-printed sheets is held in relief by gray painted wooden supports. The center image is painted in a raspberry red with a screen-printed geometric gridded overlay in gray. The image of squared sheeting is obscured by density of scribbling which overspills onto the support. The moulding divides in two, creating a mirror-effect.The vacuform is wrapped over a board backing. Richard Smith studied at the Royal College of Art, London, from 1954 to 1957, and from 1959 to 1961 lived in New York on a Harkness Fellowship. His work is widely exhibited and collected.
