A large hardcover “Baby Elephant Folio” edition of Audobon’s Birds of America, the magnum opus of American ornithologist John James Audobon (1785 – 1851). It features full-color, and often full-page, illustrations of birds, with text at the beginning of each chapter as well as an introduction. Edited by Walton Rawls and by naturalist and ornithologist Roger Tory Peterson and his wife Virginia Marie Peterson. The illustrations have been rearranged from Audobon’s original publication order, and are now ordered by modern scientific classifications of the bird species. Published 1993 by Artabras. Included are thirty one loose color plates.
Condition
- fair; minor corner wear to the loose color plates; stains and discoloration to the cloth binding; smaller-than-dime-sized holes in the cloth binding; crease in the second-to-last index page; minor scratches to the top, bottom, and fore edges.
