A watercolor painting on paper titled Across the Water II by Arthur Douglas (American, 1860 – 1949). The work depicts a flourishing group of trees and a small house to the background. The work is signed to the lower right. To the verso, a gallery label is adhered with the artist name and title of the work. The painting is presented in an off-white mat under glass in a gilt frame.
Arthur Douglas was born in Rhode Island in 1860 and at the age of eighteen enrolled in a new art school that was privately funded. That school was set up by a group called the Centennial Women and would later become the Rhode Island School of Design. He was known for his work as an educator and for his landscape paintings.
Condition
- some wear around the edges of the frame; scratches to the right lip of the frame; glass could benefit from a cleaning; to the verso, some wear to the protective backing.
