An Elizabeth (Eloe) Woolf-Laiken oil on canvas painting of figures Arbeit Macht Frei. This painting depicts a haunting image of a group of six shadowy figures walking into a foggy landscape with hunched shoulders and heads down. The phrase ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ is painted in an arch above the figures in reverse. The phrase is known for being the slogan on the gates of Auschwitz during WW2 Shoah or Holocaust. This piece is signed ‘Eloe’ to the lower left of the painting and dated ‘93’. It is presented in an open wooden frame without hanging hardware to the verso.

- mild discoloration to image; minor wear to frame; frame appears to have no hanging hardware.
