1957 Letter and Photo of Indira Gandhi and Fredda Brilliant

An August 17, 1957 letter signed by Indira Gandhi on stationary from the Prime Minister’s House, New Delhi. It is addressed to ‘Bert and Fredda, ’ referring to Herbert Marshall and his wife Fredda Brilliant. The letter is one of thanks and it expresses her sorrow for not seeing any of their films. It is signed in ink, ’Indira’. Accompanying the letter is a black and white photograph of Indira Gandhi and Fredda Brilliant. The back of the photo reads in ink, ’ Fredda Brilliant greeting Indira Gandhi arriving in England after loss of her father.’ After World War II Marshall and Brilliant moved to India and produced government films and gave lectures while pursuing close ties with the political leaders of India.
