A 1941 letter from T. S. Eliot, (1888 – 1968), British poet , essayist, publisher, playwright, literary social critic and winner of the 1948 Nobel Prize in Literature. The letter dated October 23, 1943 from Faber and Faber Publishers of London is signed in ink, ‘T.S. Elliot’ and it is a rejection letter regarding the publication of Marshall’s translation of Mayakovsky’s poetry as ’we cannot feel that enough quality is left in translation to be impressive. This is not a criticism of the translation but I suspect myself that Mayakovsky is untranslatable…… ’
