A March 1, 1973 personal letter from President Richard Nixon to Herbert Marshall, Director Center for Soviet and East European Studies in the Performing Arts Southern Illinois University. It is typed on White House embossed stationary and it expresses the President’s gratitude for the gift of the book entitled, Mayakovsky which was inscribed by Marshall. Nixon expresses his thanks for the Marshall’s support of his efforts towards world peace and goes on the express his belief that a ‘world without conflict is, indeed, in our own hands ….’. Nixon’s signature appears in black ink. The companion White House envelope is included and it is typed, ‘PERSONAL’.
