Ink on paper
A selection of mixed media drawings of people and animals by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These six drawings on loose paper include contour line studies of people and a cat in portraiture, as well as an expressive illustration of a person screaming. Featured is a drawing of an elderly woman seated in a wooden chair near an open window, the scene of which is rendered in spots with oil pastel. To the margins is a handwritten artist signature.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
