Bill Schiffer Oil Paint Marker Drawings

Item Details

Other

A collection of seven oil paint marker drawings by New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). The lot includes two drawings on board that depict Op Art compositions of geometric forms in red and black on gray grounds, and the remaining five drawings are on paper, depicting outline drawings of heart shapes given human arms and legs with other accessories such as hair, skirts, and shoes in the midst of dance poses. All pieces are signed to a lower corner and presented unmatted and unframed.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
