Bill Schiffer Charcoal and Oil Paintings on Paper

Item Details

A group of eight charcoal and oil paintings on paper by New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). These works each follow a template in the form of a simple framed rectangle in black outlines, with one left plain and the rest filled in with thick applications of oil paint to fill the center field and contrasting frame in blended, bright colors. Each is signed to the lower right and presented unframed and unmatted.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
