Item Details
Charcoal on paper
A large collection of mixed media sketches of hearts on loose paper by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These drawings include graphite, marker and ink drawings of the aforementioned symbol, some of which are anthropomorphized, while others are complemented by objects such as wings and rockets, as well as studies of people. Most of the sketches are signed to the margins.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
