A watercolor painting on paper of an abstract composition by contemporary artist Bill Schiffer. This painting, rendered with expressive brushwork and in a palette of yellow, blue, green, and red features an abstract figural scene. Depicted are shadowed figures against bold horizontal lines. It is signed and dated ‘1978’ by hand in graphite to the verso. This work is presented between acrylic glass.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
